The Gabarron Museum

The Cristobal Gabarron Museum is a space for knowledge and dissemination of the work of Cristobal Gabarron, as well as current contemporary creation. Inaugurated in 2005 by HRH the Prince and Princess of Asturias, today the Kings of Spain, it is managed by the Casa Pintada Foundation*, established thanks to a collaboration agreement between the Mula City Council and the Cristobal Gabarron Foundation. Through the spaces dedicated to the exhibition of his permanent collection, visitors can take a journey through Gabarron’s artistic life analyzing the different facets of his pictorial, sculptural creation and monumental installations. The museum also has three spaces for holding temporary exhibitions that serve as a platform for contemporary creation. The museum’s programming is completed with different activities, guided tours, children’s workshops, educational programs, conferences, master classes and spaces dedicated to the study of contemporary art.

The Gabarron Museum is housed in the iconic Mula building known as the Casa Pintada (Painted House), declared a Site of Cultural Interest in 2009. Built by Diego María de Blaya Molina Piñero Valcárcel around 1770 as a palatial residence in the architectural style characteristic of the Spanish Levant, it has a square floor plan with three floors, a central turret, and a wine cellar. Particularly striking are its 18th-century sgraffito façade, featuring folk scenes, hunting scenes, and family crests, as well as its Baroque doorway made of red Cehegín marble.
